Blocked Drains
A toilet that will not flush. A shower that fills up while you are standing in
it. A sink that drains slowly and then stops. A bad smell in the yard. Water
coming up through a gully outside after you run the washing machine.
We clear blocked drains across Thornlie, Gosnells, Cannington, Canning Vale,
Huntingdale and the surrounding south-east suburbs. We are based in Thornlie, so
most of that is within ten or fifteen minutes.

We clear it, then we find out why
Anyone can push a blockage through. The question is whether it comes back.
We clear it first, so you can use your bathroom again. Then, where it is worth
doing, we put a camera down the line and locate the fault from the surface. That
tells you whether you had a one-off — something that should not have gone down
the toilet — or whether the pipe itself has a problem that will block again in
six months.
Knowing which one you have is what lets you decide. Some people are happy to
have a drain cleared every couple of years. Others would rather fix it once. We
will show you what is down there and let you make that call, rather than
quoting a repair you might not need.
What blocks drains in our suburbs
It genuinely differs by suburb, and it changes what we expect to find.
In Thornlie and the older streets of Gosnells, most homes are from the 1950s to
70s and still have their original clay sewer lines. Clay pipes have joints every
metre or so, and the big established street trees find them. Tree roots are the
single most common cause of blockages we clear in those suburbs, and they are
the ones that come back if all you do is clear them.
In Huntingdale and the newer Gosnells infill, the drains are generally PVC — the
joints are sealed, so roots are much less of an issue. What we pull out there is
usually wipes, fat, and things that went down a toilet that should not have.
In Canning Vale, where most homes went up from the 1990s onwards, it is the same
story with one addition: on those bigger blocks, water pooling in the yard after
rain is often not a blocked drain at all. It is soakwells that have silted up
over twenty years and stopped draining. That is a different fix, and it is worth
knowing which one you have before anyone quotes you.
In Cannington, with a lot of units and strata blocks, several dwellings often
share one sewer line. A blockage in your unit is not always caused by your unit.
We have cleared plenty where the problem was three doors down — and camera work
matters more there, because where the blockage actually sits decides who is
responsible for paying to fix it.
